I grew up eating avocado as a sweet treat in Penang. My neighbour’s house  had a robust avocado tree and being the generous neighbour that she was, we were often gifted an abundance of these delicious fruits. At that time, I haven’t heard of guacamole. The only way I knew how to eat avocado was straight up with sweet accompaniments.

I love to sprinkle a generous amount of Milo or a scoop of chocolate ice cream over avocado. Although I didn’t have a huge sweet tooth as a kid, I would make an exception for avocado, Milo and ice cream. Perhaps it was my excuse to eat more Milo and ice cream! But they got me to fall in love with avocado.

At the time I thought that’s how everyone consumed avocado and boy I was wrong ha!

Watching American TV shows had got me into eating guacamole and corn chips. One of the best food pairing ever, don’t you reckon?

Meeting Adam got me into Sinh to Bo (Vietnamese avocado shake) and amongst other delicious Vietnamese drinks such as Tricolour drink and Sinh to Mit (Jackfruit smoothie).

And today, I am happy to present to you with my take on Sinh to Bo with passionfruit. Making this at home, I have the option to be light handed with the condense milk and add fun toppings like moist coconut flakes and chia seeds! In a nutshell, this is a deviation from the traditional Vietnamese avacodo shake. I hope you like it! 🙂

PrintAvocado Shake with Passionfruit (Sinh to Bo)

For two people

    For the shake:

  • 1 avocado (see Note 1)
  • 1 passionfruit
  • 2 Tbsps condense milk
  • 1 cup low fat milk + extra
  • For the toppings (optional):

  • Moist coconut flakes
  • Chia seeds

  1. Scoop the flesh of the avocado into the tumbler (I am using a stick blender).
  2. Cut the passionfruit in half and scoop the flesh into the tumbler.
  3. Add condense milk and one cup of milk. Use a stick blender to blend until smooth and velvety. Add more to achieve your desired consistency.
  4. Pour the shake into two small glasses and garnish with coconut flakes and chia seeds. Serve immediately.

[Note 1] I chilled the avocado (as a whole) in the fridge overnight.
